The Latest News: Expansion Project Moving Forward!
We’re making steady progress, although sometimes it’s hard to tell! The initial stage of the project required some major clean-up. We hauled off or gave away a huge assortment of “stuff” that had been left behind in the building over the past several years.
We’re happy to be hiring local experts to help with this project, but a lot of the heavy lifting is being done by Fred, when he’s not out working on your septic systems with Cinema Septic!
The basement has been emptied out — requiring more loading and hauling — and the front of the building was touched up, thanks to Becky Luttrell and Melissa Hockett!
Because the goal is to create an “event center,” we decided early on to combine the two historic buildings. So an entryway has been punched through the 10-inch concrete walls to join the two spaces.
Floors were stripped and leveled, old bathrooms were removed. And now we’ve finally succeeded in taking down all the old walls and erecting all the new ones! Next comes the HVAC system (watch for a special announcement about that soon!), new floors, ceiling and lighting installations.
The most important thing we’ve done over the last few months is to brainstorm, research and envision what we want to create here. We want a fresh new space but with the historic feel — a nod to the past, with an eye to the future. Because we’re committed to helping Concrete remain a great place to live and work. (P.S. We’ll be hiring!)
We hope this will be a place for you and your friends to meet over an ice cream sundae, before or after a movie or event. We want a casual area to discuss a “movie that makes you think.” Maybe the multipurpose room will be the setting for your next yoga class, art workshop or company meeting, complete with ice cream treats and espresso.
What would YOU like to do here? Let us know.
